America is where start-ups are made. Everyone knows that. We got facebook, groupon, google, you name it. The list goes on and on. But how about Costa Rica? It’s a tiny country. It has maybe 6 million residents. Costa Rica’s GDP was about $35 Billion in 2010 compared to America’s $14.6 Trillion. This place is more known for its coffee and eco-tourism, not so much for breakthrough technologies. But that reality hasn’t stopped people like David Alfaro. A few weeks ago, David, founder and president of a Prontitud, oversaw Central America’s first ever Startup Weekend event. He organized it and brought almost 100 people together in San Pedro to make it happen.
So what is a Startup Weekend event? In a nutshell, it is a 54-hour event where “developers, designers, marketers, product managers and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups!” So what was the result of this startup jam session? According to David, a few interesting projects pitched emerged.
This is exciting!
Over the next few weeks, we will meet the entrepreneurs behind these BIG IDEAS and see what they are up to. Stay tuned J!
